Feedback Analysis

Feedback Analysismedium

Student Reports
How hard is the A?
A is doable but not automatic
The signal here is more do-the-work-and-you-should-be-fine than easy-A chatter. Students do not describe the A as automatic, but the evidence also does not paint grading as punishing.
Homework Load
Moderate homework load
Homework load looks moderate. The recurring signal is steady weekly work, but not a course that turns every assignment into a grind.
Lecture Load
Lighter lecture burden
Student comments describe this as more discussion-, seminar-, or workshop-driven than lecture-dependent. The lecture burden itself does not sound like the main source of friction.
Strengths
Readings, films, or outside materials come up repeatedly as a real strength rather than filler.
Discussion is a clear strength; students repeatedly describe the class conversation as engaging and useful.
Students repeatedly say the course teaches something concrete, whether that is content mastery, research skill, or a strong foundation.
Tradeoffs
There is no single dominant complaint theme, but the feedback is not uniformly glowing either.
Best fit for
Best for students who will engage with the materials instead of skimming everything.
Watch out for
A large share of the evidence comes from one instructor's version of the course, so this may not generalize cleanly.

Student Responses

I learned a significant amount about the heterogeneity of Israeli Culture, literary analysis, and critical engagement.
Fall 2024 · Ben-yaakov, Reut
I developed critical thinking skills and the ability to discuss a reading or text in an analytical way and form. I learned how to participate actively in class discussions and ask pertinent questions. I learned about topics surrounding Israeli culture many of which I was unfamiliar with.
Fall 2024 · Ben-yaakov, Reut
- I learnt a lot about the very basis and actual historical background / roots of Israeli culture, where we specifically started off with learning about the Zionist ethos and how the state was established in 1948. - I was exposed to the array of diversity amongst people living in Israel, with us having spent extensive amounts of time talking about Mizrahi/Ashkenazi roots, and the Arab communities living within Israel. - I would say this course helped improve my analytical texts, whether it be from texts or documentaries, as through practice, I could better recognize key themes we focused on in class.
Fall 2024 · Ben-yaakov, Reut
I learned about thinking critically and academically about issues that are highly contested in society. We learned about cross-cultural perspectives as well to broaden our perspectives on the topics.
Fall 2024 · Ben-yaakov, Reut
I learned many different aspects about Israeli culture and history in this class. We learned about the history of Zionism, Ashkenazi-Mizrachi relations, the Holocaust, and many others.
